The Strategic Master Plan of Vélizy-Villacoublay represents a sophisticated and comprehensive approach to urban renewal, carefully designed to elevate the area’s architectural and social framework. Spanning an expansive 136 hectares, this ambitious project focuses on the creation of diverse spaces, including modern office environments, residential units, tertiary sectors, and vibrant commercial areas. Under the expert guidance of 5+1AA, the design strategy prioritizes the preservation of the site’s unique urban character while integrating innovative spatial planning principles that respond to contemporary urban needs.

As a team member of 5+1AA, I contributed to the development of this master plan, concentrating on the establishment of a layout that not only promotes urban density but also emphasizes the importance of accessible open spaces. The plan employs a “free plan” approach, which diverges from traditional alignment methods. This innovative strategy allows for the creation of distinctive architectural structures that foster breathing space along streets and public areas, as well as collective sites. Such an arrangement transforms the area into a cohesive yet open environment, facilitating a harmonious synthesis of functionality and accessibility that encourages community interaction and engagement.

The design respects Vélizy-Villacoublay’s architectural identity by preserving independent volumes throughout the site.
